Today was the second day of VBS. We had 7 more kids in our younger kids class, making a grand total of 18 under-10-year-olds. It was quite a loud and rambunctious group of kids. Today was the day that I was to teach about Peter and Jesus walking on water. The kids didn’t really seem to pay attention to most of the lesson and activities. They did participate in telling the story, and one or two of them answered all of the review questions right… It was just frustrating, because I had worked so hard getting ready for this and then I felt like the kids just didn’t get it. However, my other group members have encouraged me, telling me that I did a good job. John made a great point tonight about the fact that it is our job just to plant the seed and help to water it. We are not here to save the children, but we are here to help tell them about the awesome things Jesus did. Most of the kids will not remember the lessons, but will remember the fact that some college students from Tennessee came to love on them and show them God’s love. That’s the most important part of our job this week.
Today was our first day of painting on the Parks and Rec building. We are painting it a burgundy and straw/ yellow color. It will be look beautiful when we are done. Holly, Rene, and I had some great girl talk with each other as we were painting. All of us feel very blessed by the boys that are on this trip. Each of the boys here truly have such great genuine hearts for service and for the Lord. Our college ministry is really blessed with the quality of the guys. And they are just so funny, too, which is always a plus. Lots of laughter was had yesterday as we were painting, and I’m excited to finish that job tomorrow.
Tonight we went to Maho Bay to eat at Scott Drennan’s resort. It was so nice of him to cook us hot dogs and hamburgers. He has such a beautiful view of the island at the pavilion we stayed at. It was exciting to hang out with everyone and to just sit back and relax from the day. Our group seems to really enjoy spending time together, and it’s been a blessing to have these friends here this week. After we left Scott’s, we went back to the beach to have our group meeting. It was just a really encouraging time to talk about everything that had happened today and to encourage each other in what we have observed. After the meeting, Holly, Allie, Steph, and I sat on the beach and just talked. It’s great to get to hang out with Allie and Steph more, because they are just great girls. And of course, I’m truly blessed each day by having Holly on this trip. I just love our great times sitting on the beach and hanging out. I’m looking forward to more of those times.
