Anna - Pre-Trip Journal

I’m so excited to be going back to St. John this summer! Last summer was such a wonderful experience, and I can’t wait to get back and see the island and the people that impacted me so much last year. I can’t wait to get to dance and sing with the kids again, and I’m excited about VBS in general. I can’t wait to see some of the kids from last year, like Latrice, who has been on my heart for awhile. I’m excited to get back to Cruz Bay Baptist Church. It is sad to think that the pastor will not be there this year, because he passed away suddenly earlier this year. However, in one way, I feel that God is using our team to come back to St. John and somehow provide some comfort for the church. Although things have changed, we are still there, and we want to have VBS just as it has always been. I think that is one of the best things we can do as a team.
Speaking of the team, I’m really excited about all of the people that are coming this year. It’s a smaller group than before, but it’s such a great group of friends! Although we haven’t had much time to spend as a team, I really think that our unity will grow, and we will work well together. Some of my best friends are on the team, so of course, we will have lots of fun. Our group seems to all want to make this a great experience for each other and for the people we will be impacting. Everyone seems to want to step up and do something, which is awesome. I’m taking more of a leadership position this trip, and it’s been a bit stressful to get everything together, but I’m sure things will go great. This will be a great end of the college ministry for me.
Yes, I just graduated from Belmont in May. No, I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing with my life now that I’m done with college. I have been offered a wonderful part-time job with the student ministry starting in August, and I’m really excited about being the Community Outreach Organizer (at least, I think that’s the title. Haha). God has blessed me immensely with this job and with a new roommate situation and new apartment. Although things aren’t exactly figured out about money and other “adult” things, I know that God will continue to provide for me, as I continue to trust Him.
It is sad to think that this is my last college ministry experience. I have been truly blessed by the Oasis college ministry the past two years, and the friends I have made from this ministry are incredible, always there for me when I need them. God has truly blessed me with wonderful people, and I will be sad to leave. It’s also sad to know that this is John and Rene’s last trip. They have been a huge part of the amount of love and support I have felt from the college ministry. Seeing them go is sad, but I know they will be blessed in what they are doing next. God has great plans for them and for this ministry, and it’s kind of exciting to have my last trip be their last trip.
I ask that you will keep our team in your prayers. Pray for safety, for flexibility, for focus, and for hearts that reach out to those around us. I ask that you pray that I won’t be distracted by all the things left undone back in Nashville, but that I will be completely focused on what God is doing in St. John. I also ask that you pray for us as we grow as a team and share our lives with each other.
I shared this verse last year, but I feel it is still completely appropriate to share again. Ephesians 6:19 says, “Pray for me, that every time I open my mouth words will be given to me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.” This is what I want… to boldly share the gospel with those I come in contact with in St. John and during the rest of the summer. Thank you for your support and prayers!
