This morning we did our usual breakfast and group worship time, and as usual it was great. After worship time we had VBS. I am working with the older kids group and there is one little girl named Shevon who has an awesome passion for God. Every day we introduce a memory verse to the kids that they are supposed to have memorized by the end of the day. By the time we have left large group to go to our small groups, Shevon has had the verse memorized perfectly and is eager to tell it to anyone who will listen. It is so awesome!
We finished painting today, and the Parks and Rec. building looks great! We have such a great team of workers!
Later tonight we led a worship service at Calvary Baptist Church and it was a truly worshipful experience. The previous two worship services this week have been good, but the worship service tonight was completely unlike the others. Tonight it felt so much more like we were worshipping with them, rather than putting on a worship service for them. The congregation was so into it, which in turn made us all really into it. It was great!
After the service we went to dinner…where it happened to be open mic night. After we finished eating the owner of the place announced over the microphone that it was open mic night and that anyone who wanted to play should come on up…and so after our group started chanting DOUG! DOUG! DOUG! Etc... and the rest of the restaurant chanted DOUG? DOUG? DOUG? etc…I got up there. Sitting up there with a guitar and a microphone was great. It was so much fun, and to have our group and the rest of the place really into it was awesome. I love music!
Another awesome group meeting on the beach, and a night swim in the ocean, and it was off to bed. Tomorrow is the last day of VBS and I have very mixed emotions about it. On one hand, I am glad that hard work is paying off and on the other hand I am sad to see it go and to have to say goodbye to the kids. That however is tomorrow, so lets worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.
