Day 2 of VBS: On the brush again.
VBS went well yesterday! Numbers increased by about 10 or so and the kids are in the pre-warming up stage already. It’s funny to think about how young and goofy some of the older kids were just a few years ago here and to see them now! A few of the older kids even helped out with the younger kids today. That was very nice to see that they are putting their lives into action for this week to help out.
After VBS we began to paint the Youth Services building. The colors that will be on my clothes when I get back are “straw yellow” and burgundy. Holly had quite the spill about halfway through, but we turned it into being able to paint the place where she spilt paint yellow. Good save. It’s SO HOT out there but it’s great. We’re drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated much to the opposition of my sweat. The group is strong, we all got along really great even through the heat.
After painting and a few minutes of beaching, we Jeeped over to Maho Bay for dinner and a sunset. The view is INCREDIBLE up there and Scott D. fixed some mean burgers and dogs. It was nice to chill a while up there and just sit and chat with the group. It’s hard to pick a favorite part of the day on these trips, but the dinners always rival everything because of how enjoyable and refreshing they are. We ended the night with a little beach sitting and guitar playing. The song of choice was the Blues Game and I COULDN’T FOR THE LIFE OF ME teach the group how to play it correctly. I think it was user error, not teaching. We’re talking….off beat, off count, not rhyming, not going quick enough ect. ect. We finally gave up and I made up lyrics about how old John was getting to the tune of Margaritaville. Everyone else headed in and the Bowman, Kyle and I stayed out and talked for a good 30-45 minutes about life and such. Tomorrow’s my last day as I’ll be leaving early for a work-related trip on Thursday, and already (I’m cheating) it’s a good day (because I’m writing in the middle of the last day of VBS on it) and the gospel was definitely shared. Painting and fun to be had tonight! Peaceout.
