Julie - Day 1

The first day of our trip started right when the day before it ended. After finishing our preparation meeting on Friday night, I had planned to drive straight home from John and Rene’s house and do the packing that I should have done earlier that day. However, while pulling out of their driveway, I did not turn sharp enough and ended up stuck in a ditch. My immediate reaction was, “Great. Just great. This is not how I had planned on heading home and packing in order to get enough sleep to be prepared for the next day.” After trying to get out by myself for a few minutes, I stopped and realized that I couldn’t and would need to go ask for help. I decided at that moment that instead of being frustrated and upset, I would simply count on God to take care of the situation, even though it seems miniscule in retrospect. So unsurprisingly, with the help of some of the guys in the group, we were able to get my car unstuck so I could head home. Little did I know, I would need the same mentality and confidence in God in order to stay calm on Saturday during our travels.
After arriving at the airport at 5 am, our group soon learned that our flight to Atlanta was delayed and would cause us to miss our second flight to St. John. Naturally everyone was upset and frustrated at first. But to the surprise of John and Rene, we all almost immediately put our worried looks away and had great attitudes the entire day in spite of this inevitable change in the schedule because we knew that God was in control of the situation and would lead us in the direction that we should go according to His timing. And by staying calm, we were able to find another flight going out on Sunday and were able to spend a day getting to know each other better and talking about the trip to come. God took care of us and
