As fatigue finally sets in and takes over my body, I can’t help but think about how amazing today has been. Although this has been one of the longest days I will ever experience, it has also been one of the most fun. My day started on Friday the 31st with my normal routine of things: eating breakfast, going over my check-list, finding clothes, looking over my bible lesson, and making sure I had all my ducks in a line. I thought everything would be pretty easy going for the rest of the day and that I would get a good night’s sleep before a long day of travel… but God had other plans. As I was finalizing my check-list I found out that I was to be in charge of rec for the week; this wasn’t all that big of a deal because all I needed was a small list of games for kids to play. The real fun started after our final group meeting at Johns house. A few of us decided to go to Wal-mart and grab a few things we would be needing on the trip, and after this I went home and started on laundry… at midnight. At this point I knew I wasn’t going to be sleeping tonight. After I finally had everything packed up and washed I laid down for about 15 minutes to gather my thoughts… and then I heard Peters alarm going off in the next room; it was time to go to the airport. Peter and I made our way to the airport and when we got there we soon found out our flight would be delayed until 11:20 instead of 6:40. Over the next few hours we all spent time playing games, cards, and just made sure we were all very familiar with each other. When we finally arrived in Atlanta I had officially been awake for over 24 hours, and still full of energy. We knew we would be staying in Atlanta for the night instead of going on to St. Thomas, so we decided to enjoy it. Delta as an apology to us gave us $21 towards food in the airport, not only did we have that money towards food, but travelers insurance gave each of us $150 towards even more food. After we got settled into our hotels and had time to shower it was time for dinner at Fogo de Chao. All I need to say about this restaurant is that I don’t think I have ever had so many good things to eat at once in all of my life. Our stomachs were literally assaulted with food, and I’m pretty sure I won’t have to eat the rest of the week. But now as I sit here about to go to bed, I thank God for such an amazing day. Although we had an extremely long day (36 hours for me) everyone had such great attitudes the entire time, never complaining and never quarreling. I look forward to the rest of the week being the same and I pray that God will allow us to have the same great attitudes the entire week we are there.
