Kyle - Day 3
Last night was our first night in the tents, it was a pretty rough night considering the guys tent was the only tent to not have any fans in it. I fortunately got enough sleep to last me through the day though. Today was also our first day for VBS, I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I think it turned out great. Today was my day to teach the little kids their Bible lesson. It was really fun because we were given freedom and creativity to do our lessons how we wanted to. So since our theme for the week is Boomerang Express (Australian theme) I decided to make up the character Outback Steve and speak in an Australian accent. I had a lot of fun because the kids were pretty responsive to it and I think they had fun doing it as well. After the Bible lesson we had recreation outside which was a blast because we were able to play wiffleball, which was so much fun to play because we were all cutting up and talking trash to each other but loving each other at the same time. Our day was cut short from service though because the lady that was supposed to be at the building where we were supposed to paint wasn’t there. We found out she wouldn’t be coming so we just decided to go back and have a day at the beach. We went to a beach that was about 5 minutes from our campsite which was awesome because there were some great snorkeling spots. A group of about 7 of us snorkeled straight for well over an hour, and while we were out there we saw stingrays, sea turtles, many beautiful fish, and even a shark (it was only a 5 or 6 footer). When we got back to the beach Jared and I decided that we should go find a big rock and try running underwater with it. It sounds pretty harmless, except that when I went to pick up a rock I felt a sharp pain hit my thumb. I looked at my thumb and didn’t see any blood but I ran down to the water to try and wash it off no matter what it was. When I went back up to see what had caused the pain, I looked under the rock and lo and behold, there was a scorpion. It had stung my thumb. I have never felt a sting so bad in my life before, I literally that I had lost my thumb when it first happened. All is well though; some guys on the beach got me some ice to keep on it. After the beach Doug, Holly, Anna, and I went back early and blew up 40 black balloons and threw them in John’s tent as a beginning to his birthday night. We then all dressed up and black and went out to dinner. When we came back from dinner we had our group meeting out on the beach. It was awesome to hear what all was going on in peoples days and be able to enjoy the laughter from what had been going on. After we had prayed at the end of the meeting we had a sort of roast of John. I had told people that we should write John epitaphs or eulogies; so we read what we had written to him. After we roasted John though we had a time to tell him how much he really did mean to us and just reflect upon all the he has done. All in all it was an awesome day and I’m really glad everything went as well as it did. I pray that the rest of the week goes as well and that God presents us with opportunities outside of our Bible lessons to share Gods word and hopefully plant seeds in their hearts.

Hey Kyle,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are on this trip! Your sense of humor and willingness to serve will definitely be a great asset to this group.
I wanted to leave you with some scripture before tomorrow. You're all in my prayers!
-"Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander." (1 Peter 3:13-16)
