Kyle - Day 4
Today was another awesome day on the island. As far as VBS goes it was a pretty normal day; we had our lesson, rec, snack, and worship time just like the first day. Nothing too exciting happened during VBS, but it was definitely a lot of fun interacting with the kids. After VBS though some of the group went and started our project; which was painting a recreation facility. While most of the group went and did that, 4 of us stayed behind and put books that were stacked on the floor up onto a shelf. Surprisingly it was pretty fun just because we were able to cut up with one another and also able to look at some of the books that were in this office. When we finished with this and were waiting for John to come pick us up we had a little down time. We took some pictures and chased some iguanas that I spotted outside. Then I climbed a tree and picked some gineps for a few of us to eat, which are sweet like candy and really slimy. When Rene came and picked us up we went and dropped Allie, Steph, and Jared off at the painting site and then Rene and I went and got water for everyone. While we were driving I was able to talk to Rene about how they had started the St John mission trip. It was pretty awesome to hear about how they had started everything and just how God had showed them what to do. So I really enjoyed that time with her talking about her experiences and learning more about what her and John do. We finally went back and started painting with everyone, which also was surprisingly fun. Even though it was incredibly hot outside everyone was still able to enjoy themselves and have a good time while doing it. After we finished a coat of paint we went back to our campsite to clean up before dinner which we were going to have at Scott Drennans place. I had heard everyone talk about how beautiful it was from previous years but I really couldn’t understand that until I was able to see it for myself. We got there and went up to this pavilion which had the most incredible view of the ocean and surrounding islands. It was absolutely beautiful to look out over the ocean as the sun was setting and enjoy the evening. We had a great time together at dinner, but the evening was over and we finally were able to go back, relax and have a group meeting on the beach. All in all the day was pretty awesome, it was a hot day and I may have burned a little on my head but that’s okay. We were all able to put on smiles and enjoy each others companies. At the end of the night I can’t help but to think about the words of a song we were listening to on the way back to the camp site. They said, “such a perfect day.” It’s a simple phrase but it really sums up how are days have been going. I thank God for such a beautiful place, and for being able to come and witness to these kids. I pray that God will use me in the coming days to further his kingdom, and I also pray that we can continue to have such great attitudes.
