Rene - Day 1

Perspective
Today was a much anticipated day. Lots of work and planning had gone into making sure we were ready when this day finally arrived. But I was quickly reminded that no matter how much planning WE do, that ultimately God’s plan prevails and He accomplishes what He wants for reasons we may never understand. Because I know the students will elaborate with details of our delay and subsequent overnight stay in Atlanta I will not. But what struck me most about today was how God used the small details of the day to remind me that our circumstances were merely inconvenient—while those around us were experiencing some life changing things of their own. I was reminded this after hearing John tell the group of his talk with a woman in line whose flight had also been delayed and was trying to get to Arizona to see her sister who was literally on her death bed. Seeing many of our nation’s military personnel waiting on their flights with loved ones and having to say goodbye—perhaps not knowing if or when they would return, also put things into perspective. Those are life changing circumstances. While, yes, we would have preferred to arrive at our scheduled time, the course of our life was not changed because of it. So God used the first day of our trip as a gentle reminder that sometimes we have no idea what’s going on in someone else’s life or where life’s journey may be taking them but ultimately God has a plan that’s infinitely better than our own. And with that fresh perspective I am eager to see what the week in St. John holds.

I Thessalonians 5:16-17
Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
