After dinner and our group meeting we sat on the beach and several of us played an improv blues game. That game kind of summed up the feeling for the entire day—there were many moments we had to come up with things as the moment presented itself.
VBS was great—don’t get me wrong. Things just seemed all over the place—kid wise. Many of the kids were super energetic and others just refused to sit still and listen. It was a challenging day, but great none the less. Our students did a wonderful job of trying to keep the kids’ attention and coming up with games at the drop of a hat. Improv at its finest.
Painting was perhaps my favorite part of the day. It was hot, we were sweaty but lots of fun was had. I had the wonderful pleasure of painting with Holly and Anna and they are two of the funniest girls I know. We laughed more than we painted but it was sooo refreshing!! Both girls are becoming such wonderful women of the Lord and I love them both.
A dinner of burgers and dogs was provided by Scott. Also included was a hot shower (for me!), laundry facilities for washing our camp shirts and a beautiful sunset over Maho Bay. I always love visiting with Scott and hearing about the happenings on the island and “his kids”. I’ve had the great opportunity of watching Scott grow up the the college ministry, going on several of the St. John trips and ultimately move here and begin working with youth here on the island. Just as John and I refer to the college students as “our kids” I think its so neat that now Scott has “kids” of his own. He is doing a great work here trying to reach out to these kids. Not an easy task but he’s doing a great job and you can tell the kids really respect him.
One of my favorite parts of each day is our end of the day group meeting. I love hearing about how the others saw the day—to get a glimpse into their point of view. Tonight was another great meeting followed by improv blues on the beach under the moon and stars. I’m anxious to see what tomorrow holds!
