Rene - Day 5

Wednesday was an amazing day for both VBS and the group. We have seen incremental attendance increases thus far, with 21 on Monday, 26 on Tuesday and 30 on Wednesday. And each day we continue to get new kids. Today was especially anticipated because the group was doing an intentional lesson on salvation. Yes, you can present the gospel to these kids at any point, but today’s lesson was intentional and part of the curriculum and the college group was so excited! Both groups did an excellent job of telling the specifics of becoming a Christian and true to form, created a card at the spur of the moment to go over with each individual to see where they were spiritually. This resulted in at least three professions of faith!!! Praise the Lord! It was very exciting to see these kids come to the Lord and also exciting because some of our college students had never led anyone to the Lord before now.
Painting was a bit more tedious today—and I’m not one for the tedious sort of tasks so it was a stretch for me. The tediousness was at least offset by being able to laugh and cut up with Julie, Doug, Holly and Jeff. We thought we would be finished with painting on Wednesday, but there is just so much detail and trim work that requires being high on the ladder and there’s just only some much you can accomplish with only two ladders that reach what you need. It was a lesson in patience.
The church service at Cruz Bay was led by our group. John delivered an excellent sermon and Jeff, Doug, Holly and Anna did a wonderful job with the music. I enjoyed learning a bit more about Jared when he gave his testimony. I felt like a proud mom as the students did their thing with leading the service. I’m just so proud of how they work together to accomplish things for the Lord. It really is a blessing to be a part of this group!
Our group time Wednesday was by far my favorite. Again, I enjoyed hearing about how everyone else saw the day unfold. At the end, we spent some time lifting up Jeff in prayer because he was leaving on Thursday to head back early to keep his part of a work commitment….IN HAWAII! And Jeff just graduated and will be moving on to other ministry opportunities to be a part of. We had the wonderful opportunity to pray over and for Jeff—it was so neat to hear his friends speak words of encouragement and special memories they have with him. It was truly a blessing to have Jeff a part of the college ministry—he brought such talent, humor, accountability and the wonderful gift of relating to all kinds of people and making them feel welcome. Jeff, thanks for all you’ve done and we pray for all God’s blessings in your life!!
