Steph - Day 1

Today turned out to be a great start to this wonderful trip I’ve been blessed to be able to be a part of! I woke up at 4 this morning and got about 2 hours of sleep. I was so excited for St. John to arrive that I could barely sleep! We got to the airport at 5 and I got a text saying that we were delayed and to not ask any questions. At first I was a little bit worried to see what would happen but knew it would all work out. We all sat around for a while, and played signs (which was awesome) while John waited in the longest line I’ve EVER seen, and tried to see what was going on. After a while he finally came back and told us the good and the not too to bad news. Our flight had been delayed, and we wouldn’t be able to make it St. John by tonight, but our traveling insurance was going to be giving us $150 dollars a piece to use for lunch, dinner, and breakfast the next morning, and free rooms at a hotel in Atlanta. We were going to be able to fly into St. John tomorrow at 11:30. At first the thought of six flags came up and everyone was excited, but as the day progressed we all realized that that probably wasn’t the best idea, considering all of us were so sleepy for the long day of waiting and flying and waiting some more. The flight was short and so was my nap, but with all the hype of being able to eat at this Brazilian Buffet type of restaurant we were going to it really didn’t matter! We got off and ate a light lunch around 3 or so to hold us over as John made reservations for us at Fogo De Chao ( I have no idea how to spell it, all that matters is that it was AMAZING!) at 9. After lunch we made our way to the shuttle to take us to our hotel so we could rest up for our dinner. Once we made it to the hotel we figured out who our roomies would be for the night and it was me, Julie, and Allie. We made a quick decision to all try and take a nap before dinner. Once we woke up we took some nice warm showers, since we knew we’d be lacking the warm part for the rest of the week haha. We made it downstairs and were off for one of the best meals I’ve ever had! We got to the airport to take the marta into Buckhead. After 30 minutes of the marta we had our 1 mile walk to the restaurant. Once we got in and got seated and got told the rules on how this whole thing was going to work, it was off to be the most full I’ve ever been! There were coasters that had red and green on either side, green-more meat, red-no more meat. First was the salad bar which was huge and had everything you could ever think of. Once we got that and sat down I discovered the cheese biscuits, wow best thing I’ve ever had. Then it was time to flip the coaster to green. The guys with the meat came by one after the other with every type of meat you could think of (this would be any guy’s paradise). It was so delicious and such a blessing to have been able to do that. After filling our bellies, we made it back to the hotel, had a quick meeting about what was to happen tomorrow, and we went straight up and now sleep. What a way to start off the trip, but it was such a great start. It was such a blessing in disguise. Without this we would’ve all been running off of hardly any sleep and starting off this trip really sluggish. This let us be able to nourish our bodies with great food, and get a good night’s sleep and start off this trip refreshed and ready. We all did amazing I thought for such a confusing day. I’ve learned to just sit back and let God do what he has planned for us and let him be in control of this trip and just go with the flow. Everyone here has been amazing, and I have a great feeling about the rest of the week. I can’t wait to see what’s in store and what God has planned for this group throughout this week. It seems to me from this start to just expect the unexpected and go with it and know in the end it’ll all turn out the way it’s supposed to. Out of every negative thing comes something positive, and it’s so true. Now it’s time to recharge and be ready for the week!
